About me:I am one of the so-called noble gases. Helium gas is an unreactive, colourless, and odourless monoatomic gas. Helium is available in pressurised tanks. I am the second most abundant element in the universe after hydrogen. α-particles are doubly ionised helium atoms, He2+. I am used in lighter than air balloons and while heavier than hydrogen, is far safer since helium does not burn. Speaking after breathing an atmosphere rich in helium results in a squeaky voice (don't try it!). I am presented in the atmosphere at about 0.0005% (1 part in 200000) by volume and is an important component within hydrocarbon gases in the USA. Its origin in these gases is traced to the decay of radioactive elements in rocks. Cool Facts: Helium is the second-lightest element. Helium is the second-most abundant element in the universe, though it is much less common on Earth. Helium is colorless, odorless, tasteless, non-toxic, and inert. Most helium is obtained by extracting it from natural gas. Helium is the second-least reactive noble gas. Helium is monatomic under standard conditions. Inhaling helium temporarily changes the sound of a person's voice. Though helium is non-toxic, breathing it can result in asphyxiation due to oxygen deprivation. Evidence of helium's existence came from observation of a yellow spectral line from the sun. The atomic number of helium is 2, meaning each atom of helium has two protons. Helium has the lowest melting point and boiling point of the elements, so it only exists as a gas except under extreme conditions. What Im used in!
filling party balloons – it’s a safe, non-flammable gas
creation of an inert gas shield for arc welding
high speed ‘push gas’ inside air-to-air missiles for guidance corrections
protective gas in growing silicon and germanium crystals, and in titanium and zirconium production
cooling medium for nuclear reactors; helium won't become radioactive
artificial atmospheres for divers and others working under pressure (mixtures of about 80 percent helium and 20 percent oxygen)
cryogenics and superconductivity
use in supersonic wind tunnels
pressurizing agent for liquid fuel rockets (inert so it won't react)
leak detection agent for extremely small leaks
isotopic dating by helium ratios (seawater, ocean beds, etc.)
How Was I Discovered:Helium was first discovered in Sun's atmosphere by analyzing the solar spectrum that's why Sun is otherwise known as Helius. Famous scientist Fraunhoffer discovered faint dark lines in solar spectrum and they were named as Fraunhoffer lines and their analysis has led to the discovery of many elements present in solar atmosphere and in this regard the first element identified was Helium and later it was also discovered on earth My friends:
I dont have any good friends because my valiant shell is full with two electrons. If you want more information on what valiant shell means click here. Noble or inert gases don't react with other elements because their outer electron shells are completely full. It's all about the electron configuration in the outer shell (valence shell) of a given atom. When the outer electron shell in an atom is full, the electrons there are "happy with their arrangement" and the atom does not want to either loan out or borrow electrons. Unlike me the heavier noble gases actually can be forced to react with very electronegative elements like oxygen and fluorine. However, they don't do so readily.

My WeekMonday-No one want to bond with me. Im alone :( I am not sure what to do, I think I'm going to go to the counselor and ask her how to make room in my valiant shell but i know all she will tell me is that I cant drop an electron. Tuesday-Today I was at a kids birthday party, the clown was busy twisting and turning me. The older kids after the party thought it would be cool to inhale me so they could talk funny. I did not appreciate it. Wednesday-I was used in a MRI machine to help the sick patient in the hospital i tough it was so cool that i got the chance to help that man with problems with his spine.
Thursday-I got to watch the Super Bowl from a birds eye view today, because they used me in the Good year blimp. I even got a picture of me in action. I was a little scared tho I was so high u for so long. They captain had no no control over me because the winds were howling. Friday-I learned about my Friends that are in my coulomb, I learned all about how many electrons I have and all my friends have. I never new that anyone wanted to be as happy as me, but the truth is that having a full shell is lonley.
Saturday-I went to school today i felt much better i found out that my boiling point is now -268 Centigrade. Which is really cool because water only boils at 100 centigrade. that means it is really easy for me to boil. Sunday-I went to the US Navies museum today and I found out that I was used in the world's first helium-filled airship, the U.S. Navy's C-7, which flew its maiden voyage from Hampton Roads, Virginia, to Bolling Field in Washington, D.C., on December 1, 1921. My Friends: Neon (Ne)
Argon (Ar)
Krypton (Kr)
Xenon (Xe)
Radon (Rn)
All my friends happen to be Nobel Gases and in the Same row as me!
